THUNDER BAY – The Empire Hotel on Simpson Street has been reduced to a pile of rubble. The demolition started on Saturday morning, and continued through the day. Part of the old hotel collapsed on Thursday. The City of Thunder Bay declared that the situation required emergency action in order to protect the public.

Earlier the City of Thunder Bay moved to declare the hotel a public safety hazard. The owner of the hotel is an Ottawa based company. They have reportedly left the city with no choice but to knock down the hotel.
