THUNDER BAY – The Empire Hotel has been deemed unsafe. Sean Herman with the City of Thunder Bay Licencing and Enforcement has issued an order stating that the hotel building must be properly secured, and that the building must be demolished to secure the safety of the public.

The hotel has been closed for some time now.

The owner of the hotel, 6751962 Canada Inc. according to the City of Thunder Bay will be responsible for the demolish costs and the cost of the clean up. The company is located in Ottawa, and the owner Dennis Pettigrew could not be reached for comment.

The building has had several incidents with fire and other vandalism.

The old hotel which was an icon on Simpson Street back in the day.

Time and neglect have made many of the old buildings along Simpson Street fade from their former glory of days long past.
