THUNDER BAY – The splash pad in County Park will open on June 28th. That is the word from senior management at the City of Thunder Bay. There will be a ‘soft launch’ opening on that day, and plans are afoot for a more formal opening to celebrate the long awaited splash pad opening.
Splash Pad will Soon Splash
NetNewsLedger reported earlier this week that the pad is still dry. Since then, in communication with the City, the word is that the issues are being solved, and the opening will happen.
Ward Councillor Trevor Giertuga remains silent on the issue. Several Councillors have reported that they have been fielding concerns from McKellar Ward residents on this and other issues.
The $300,000 project was approved in 2010. Construction for the pad started that fall.
The project was promised to be open in 2012, when issues developed on connecting the plumbing happened. The contractor responsible for the project, from Paris, Ontario was having problems.
Sources tell NetNewsledger there were also issues with approval and permits, and the City Engineering Department had concerns.
The goal is getting the project open and having the young people and parents in County Park able to enjoy the long awaited project.
