THUNDER BAY – Mac’s in Action! In May 2013, Mac’s partnered with Die Active and Definitely Superior Art Gallery for a Community Street Mural Project. This innovative art partnership project builds upon the growing strength/phenomena of the Die Active youth art collective, which is now entering into its fifth year of contemporary art activities involving new generation artists and changing the face of Thunder Bay through urban art!
This initiative brings together many community partners and their messages — Thunder Bay Crime Stoppers “Hate Devises A Community” and Thunder Bay’s Crime Prevention “RESPECT” initiative will be represented in the mural to promote community strength. This initiative will develop positive relationships between businesses, the community, police and youth. The mural, creates a sense of “community”, with a true neighbourhood feel.
The mural was revealed on Tuesday, May 7th with A BIG REVEAL and BAcKAlleY Party, at Mac’s Convenience Store, located at 745 Simpson Street, to which everyone in the community was invited! Mayor Hobbs and other City Officials were on hand to celebrate the reveal which featured break dancing and DJ performances, free pizza & treats, film crews, media and supporters!
