TORONTO – International Hydrail delegates were provided an update on the situation in Germany as it applied to hydrogen powered rail. Detlef Matthiessen, MP of Schleswig Holstein FRG is the second speaker at the International Hydrail Conference going on in Toronto. Hydrogen powered rail would be a clean, green and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

Geermany has made a decision to move away from nuclear power.
Detlef Matthiessen says that in Germany that 16 percent of the countries power needs are met by wind energy, but that it is not a reliable source for power.
Germany has an extensive rail network that covers the country. Much of the rail is either electric or diesel. Both which are powered by coal fired power plants.
Hydrogen powered rail is an alternative.
