THUNDER BAY – There is a new kid on the block, but Darlene Green is not new to the food industry. Before opening up the new Silver Birch Restaurant, Darlene ran a very successful catering company called Sweet Dreams Catering.
Silver Birch is beautiful inside, with a roaring fireplace in the private dining room, and upper and lower level seating in the main restaurant. The woodsy environment is very calm and relaxing.
I especially love the birch created wall you see as you enter the restaurant. Darlene actually took photos of birch trees in her yard at home and had it made into wallpaper for the restaurant.
Silver Birch is a new northern inspired culinary landmark.
The menu boasts such items as rabbit, and pickerel. It is sure to have something for everyone.
Silver Birch’s menu offers fresh fish caught daily, which includes whitefish and pickerel. The restaurant also offers local beef ,and chicken too. There are also a few seafood dishes.
Silver Birch believes in bringing in everything locally. Some of the great menu items include a traditional shore lunch, wild rice burger, bouillabaisse and the mushroom tart and for the young at heart, a thunder burger and also campfire poutine!
All desserts are made on site by Darlene. The Blue Ice (blueberry sorbet) is a great treat after a wonderful dinner, or I would also suggest the Lemon Raspberry Torte as this is truly the best dessert I have tasted in a long time.
The place is so comfortable and relaxing, so if you haven’t tried the new Silver Birch restaurant in the old Armando’s location, you are surely missing out on a great dining experience.
The staff are all very knowledgeable and friendly.
Silver Birch is open Tuesday to Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday. Make sure you make a reservation so you’re not disappointed as it has become quite the go-to place recently, with many repeat customers!
