EMO – Motor Sports – Stock car racing returned to the Emo Speedway for the first time in 2013 as the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, WISSOTA Modifieds, and Emo Street Stocks hit the track for Amsoil Dirt Track Series action on a cool but decent day. The fans were treated to Driver Introductions and were able to vote for the Best Appearing Car for 2013 before hitting the track for their heat races.
Emo Speedway Lambert Clean Sweeps
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds started off the night in their first heat. Chuck Lambert started on the outside and passed Kenny Perry early on to take the win. Brady Caul and John Hettinga rounded out the top 3. In the second heat, Christopher Leek started third but was able to fend off Brody Strachan and take the win. In the Street Stocks, Ron Westover claimed the heat over Jeff Wickstrom with some great racing going on throughout the ten laps. In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Tyler Brown was able to out muscle Glen Strachan during the race to finish first. Steve Nordin and Gary Wilson finished second and third.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds started their feature event with Cody Ossachuk and Tylar Wilson starting on the front row. As the green flag flew, Wilson took the early lead, but Lambert was coming up from his fourth spot starting position. An early caution flag came out, allowing Lambert to get right up behind him. As the green flag went, Wilson started to develop a push, allowing Lambert to get underneath. But the race was not over. Leek was moving up into second and passed Lambert halfway through the race. A late caution came out, and Leek was sent back a position for jumping on the earlier restart. That allowed Lambert to take the lead and hold on for his fifth consecutive season opener win and third clean sweep in the opener.
In the Street Stocks, Ron Westover and Jeff Wickstrom started on the front row. The two veterans had a tight race for the first few laps, but Westover got the better of the two and found a line on the high side. Wickstrom stayed in the middle but was unable to maintain the pace. The race pretty much went green to checkered, with Kendal Gamsby beating Wickstrom to the finish line for second. Westover took the win with a sizable lead.
The WISSOTA Modifieds were up next with Steve Nordin on the pole. The green flag waved and Nordin jumped out in front. However, Brown started to reel him in and by the fourth lap, they were side by side for the lead. Nordin high and Brown low, the two drivers ran a clean and smart race until Brown was able to get the go ahead lead. A couple cautions came out, but overall Brown was the dominant car for much of the race taking his first feature win! Thanks to everyone for coming out for the season opener!
Racing resumes next Saturday night with Hot Laps at 7pm and racing at 7:30pm. During intermission, the drivers will be coming up to the grandstand and do a candy giveaway courtesy of Safeway Canada Ltd. (Fort Frances).
