THUNDER BAY – Happy Birthday Hammarskjold! It was Hammarskjold’s 50th birthday yesterday. This year there are a lot of special events planned to recognize this special anniversary. At the school yesterday, there was a barbecue to mark the birthday.

On Friday, August 16 2013 there will be a Meet and Greet”old friends and make new acquaintances in the adjoining main cafeterias of the university. Enjoy sharing news while being entertained by the easy-listening music of “Jamie Philp and Friends”. There will be a cash bar, and appetizers will be available for purchase from Aramak Catering.
Hammarskjold was named for Dag Hammarskjold, a former United Nations General Secretary.
Saturday evening (8:30 until 1:00 am.
At the adjoining cafeterias of Lakehead University:
- Enjoy the “Blast from the Past” Scholarship Fundraiser and Boogie as you “twist, frug, monkey, swim, etc.” or— just “waltz, foxtrot or shuffle” your evening into the early-morning hours along with all your Viking friends.
- Bring yor best voice and/or musical instrument and, at the invitation of the band “21-Gun Fun”, join with them for a song or even a set.
- Participate in a silent auction featuring memorabilia and merchandise donated by alumni artists, artisans and patrons of the school. Bring your cash and/or chequebook!

Do you remember the “Hamm Jam Band” from the 1970s? Maybe they will rock the house. They did during the 1976 Canada Summer Games?
