Watershed Safety StatementTHUNDER BAY – The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority has issued a Water Safety Statement for the Lakehead Region including: City of Thunder Bay, Municipalities of Neebing, Oliver Paipoonge, Shuniah and the Townships of O’Connor, Conmee, Gilles and Dorion.

Recent snowfall mixed with expected warm temperatures will result in a rapid melt  in the coming days. Area watercourses are reacting slowing to the melt at this time but  may  rise rapidly over the weekend and into the following week. Minimal precipitation is expected over the weekend.

The public is advised to exercise caution in and around area waterways. High flows, melting ice and unstable banks could be dangerous. Parents  and caregivers  are advised to keep children away from all waterways and discuss the hazards of fast flowing water.

A Watershed Conditions Statement regarding Water Safety is issued to advise of unsafe conditions.   Flooding is not expected .

Authority Staff will continue to monitor conditions as part of its Flood Forecast ing and Warning Program.
