THUNDER BAY – Vince Mirabelli, president of the Thunder Bay – Superior North Federal Liberal Riding Association congratulates MPP Michael Gravelle and MPP Bill Mauro for their involvement in securing provincial support for the Experimental Lakes Area (ELA).

Bill Mauro MPPThis was an issue that many people in the region felt very strongly about, and I am pleased that we in Northwestern Ontario have such strong representation in Queen’s Park that even provincial members can play an active role is making up for the federal government’s shortcoming on this issue.

“This situation is very frustrating as the benefits the ELA provide far exceed the amount of money the federal government saved,” stated Mirabelli.

“Even more disappointing is that despite MP Bruce Hyer’s being a vocal supporter of the ELA, he was unable to work effectively at the federal level to save the ELA. Instead this cost was pushed upon the province.”

“While the province should be praised for taking on this responsibility, the Harper government needs to be reminded that this is an issue that could have easily been resolved at the federal level, especially considering a Conservative MP holds the riding the facility is located in,” commented Mirabelli.

“This is further proof of the Harper government’s inefficiency in supporting Northwestern Ontario issues”

Local Liberals are enthused by the election of Justin Trudeau as Liberal leader. Mirabelli hinted that the Liberals have a high profile candidate coming forward to run in the next federal election.
