THUNDER BAY – Sports – Lappe Nordic has a strong history filled with many proud traditions and annual contests. Every year the first and the last ski of the year are documented, members track the kilometers they ski on “The Kilometer Board” and totals are tallied up at the end of the year for the Year’s Top 10 and the All Time Top 10.
Last year, Brian Berry made history breaking the long standing record and skiing over 5000km in one, very short, season.
As of Wednesday, April 24th, 2013 a new all time record has been set for kilometers skied in one year.
Bruce Brown has hit another landmark passing 5500km in a single season! While the season had a slow start, Bruce, and other skiers, have been on the trails since November. The last documented ski of the 2011-2012 season was April 22nd, in marginal conditions with plenty of bare spots.
As Bruce cruised by the 5500km mark, the trails are in phenomenal conditions as they are continuing to groom out at Lappe. With a deep snow base and no bare spots yet, Bruce, and many others, will be on the trails at Lappe for weeks to come .
