RCMP, Thunder Bay PoliceSAULT STE MARIE – A pair of Card Skimming scammers were busted at the Sault Ste Marie border crossing.  April 9, 2013 members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) – Sault Ste. Marie Serious and Organized Crime Team were called to the Sault Ste. Marie Port of Entry to assist Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers. 

 

The vigilance of the CBSA officers led to the detention of a pair of suspects.

Card Skimming Scam Busted

 

RCMP investigators were informed by CBSA officers that they were detaining two Canadian men from the Montreal area after they were refused entry to the United States.  A search of the vehicle produced a small quantity of a substance believed to be cocaine, pills, false identification, and several cell phones.

Further investigation led to the seizure of several devices related to “card skimming”.

Two males from the Montreal area have been charged with various offences and appeared in Court in Sault Ste. Marie on April 10th.  The males were held in custody pending a bail hearing on April 12, 2013.

Alexey PILOTO TSYMBALOV, 31 years, from the Montreal area is charged as follows:

  1. Possession of a Narcotic, Section 4 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  2. Possession of an instrument used in Forging Credit Cards, Section 342.01 Criminal Code;
  3. Possession of a Credit Card knowing the card was obtained by the Commission of an Offence, Section 342(1)(c) Criminal Code.

Jorge PERALES, 40 years, from the Montreal area is charged as follows:

  1. Possession of a substance included in Schedule III, Methylpenidate, for the Purpose of Trafficking, Section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  2. Possession of an instrument used in Forging Credit Cards, Section 342.01 Criminal Code;
  3. Possession of a Credit Card knowing the card was obtained by the Commission of an Offence, Section 342(1)(c) Criminal Code.
  4. Breach of Probation Order, Section 733.1(1) Criminal Code.

The investigation is continuing.
