LONDON – International – Margaret Thatcher, the former British Prime Minister has passed. Britain’s first woman Prime Minister, Thatcher served as Prime Minister during the Falklands War and was called the ‘Iron Lady’ by many.

Born October 13, 1925, the former Prime Minister was the longest-serving Prime Minister of the 20th Century, serving from 1979 to1990. She was 87 years old.

Thatcher passed after a stroke according to early reports, however the Iron Lady has been in failing health for sometime and has been rarely seen in public.

“It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning,” Lord Tim Bell.

Queen Elizabeth II has issued a statement, and says that she will be sending a private message to the family.

When she was in office, she was often reviled, as she was taking strong stands and action to rebuild the British economy. After leaving office she saw her reputation continue to gain stature.
