Sault Ste Marie PoliceSAULT STE MARIE – Crime – The Sault Ste Marie Police report, “18 year old Kelsey Haskett of 136 Turner Ave. was charged early this morning for Impaired Driving and Consuming over the Legal Limit. City Police officers responded to a motor vehicle collision call in the area of St. Georges Ave. across from St. Basil’s School at 2:50AM in the morning.

“Upon arrival they observed a vehicle with its rear wheels on the guardrail. Upon further investigation officers were able to determine that Miss Haskett was the driver of the vehicle and she appeared to be impaired. She will be appearing in Provincial Court on April 15th”.

On the 8th of March at 11:23 am, police attended a residence in the east end of the city in regards to a threatening complaint from an adult male. Officers learned that Sean McLarty, age 45 of 171 Douglas Dr. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario threatened to assault the complaint and then threatened to kill him.  McLarty was observed to have been driving during this incident. He was disqualified from driving and on conditions of an undertaking to not occupy the driver’s seat of any motor vehicle.  Officers subsequently located and arrested McLarty shortly after 1:00 pm. He has been charged with uttering a threat to cause death, drive while disqualified and breach of his undertaking. He will appear in court on April 15th at 9:00 am.

On February 28th the accused, a 30 year old male, was in his west end residence with his son. It is alleged that the male sexually assaulted the boy by touching his genitals. On March 8th, 2013 the male was arrested and charged with sexual assault. He will appear in court on April 15th at 9:00 am.

On February 28th at approximately 10:00 am Jeff Fleming, age 27 of 54 Ellis Rd. Sault Ste. Marie assaulted a 23 year old male known to him by hitting him in the face with a pylon. The victim received minor injuries in the assault.  On March 8, 2013 at shortly after 5:00 pm Fleming attended at the City Police Station and was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm. He will appear in court on April 15th at 9:00 am.

On March 8th, 2013 at approximately 3:00 pm, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team and Canine Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Wellington Street West. During the course of the search, officers located 157 grams of cannabis marihuana, a digital scale, packaging materials, drug paraphernalia and a quantity of cash.  Officers arrested Leonard Empey, age 61, of 293 Wellington St. West, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.  Upon his arrest, Empey was found in possession of a small container containing cannabis marihuana.  Empey has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $3200.00. He will appear in court on April 15th at 9:00 am.
