THUNDER BAY – Premier Kathleen Wynne said today she wants to work with First Nations to take advantage of the immense opportunity of the Ring of Fire for future economic growth and job creation for generations to come. The government will work with First Nations to share the benefits of development.

This meeting between Matawa Chiefs, Premier Kathleen Wynne, Minister Michael Gravelle, and Minister David Zimmer was productive and part of an ongoing constructive dialogue with First Nation communities.

Premier Kathleen Wynne – Honoured

“I was honoured to meet with the Matawa Chiefs and hear about their priorities and hopes. I look forward to ongoing work between my government and the Chiefs and their communities to build a brighter future,” said Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario.

“We were certainly pleased and honoured to host this important meeting with the Matawa Chiefs. There are, unquestionably, tremendous opportunities in the Ring of Fire development and our government remains firmly committed to continued dialogue,” said Minister Michael Gravelle. “This meeting certainly builds on our commitment and is an integral part of discussions already underway.”

“I recognize the importance of engaging in meaningful and respectful dialogue with First Nations. Building strong relationships with our First Nation partners is key to realizing the benefits that this opportunity presents for all in Ontario,” commented David Zimmer, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs.
