THUNDER BAY – Crimebeat – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has been busy each Saturday morning in the south end of the city. The investigation by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has determined that the cause of the fire that occurred Saturday at 112 Finlayson St is the result of vandalism arson.

Fire Chief John Hay asks anyone that has information regarding this fire to contact Thunder Bay Fire Rescue or Thunder Bay Police.

“This fire was a result of vandalism arson,” said Chief Hay. “We are appealing to the public for any information they may have that will help us conclude the investigation.”

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to the structural fire at 112 Finlayson Street on Saturday morning just after 8AM.

When firefighters arrived flames were visible through the windows at the front of the house on both the first and second floor of the structure.

After determining the structure was vacant, crews battled the stubborn fire from a defensive position for three hours before bringing it under control. The structure sustained heavy damage as a result of the arson.

Anyone with information on this arson is asked to call Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Fire Prevention Office at 625-2650 or Thunder Bay District Crime Stoppers at 807.623-TIPS or toll-free 1.800.222.TIPS. You can also go online to tipsubmit.com to provide anonymous information.
