THUNDER BAY – Health Challenges face Baby Reed. In December little Reed Pepe was born to Ryan Pepe and Amanda Tattrie. It was a great day for the family filled with joy and the excitement new life brings. That excitement was dampened when it quickly became apparent that there was something seriously wrong with baby Reed.

Within hours of his birth Reed was rushed to Sick Kid’s Hospital in London, Ontario where he under went numerous surgeries including a loop colostomy. The first surgery was when Reed was two days old. The surgeries were required to correct numerous life-threatening conditions.

“He is doing really well after his colostomy surgery. the doctors are not really saying yet as far as his prognosis cause it is still to early to tell. “ reports his mom, Amanda Tattrie.

Amanda did not get to be with her son until a week after he was born due to just having a c-section and being unable to travel.

The father Ryan has been unable to return to work since the birth of his son due to the constant care Reed requires. The family is receiving help in the form of home-care once a day, and support from family and friends. The cost of equipment, medical supplies, travel expenses for required trips to London have put a very large burden on the family.

To help ease this burden a benefit in Reed and his family’s Honor is being held to raise the necessary funds to help Reed with his special needs.

The benefit will take place on March 9th 2013, at the Hodder Tavern, where there will be music, a raffle and plenty of fun. Tickets are $5 each. More information can be found on the Benefit for Reed Pepe Facebook page.

The family is currently looking for donation of prizes for the raffles, as well as cash donations to go towards Reed’s care. Any business or person willing to donate a prize or money to baby Reed can contact Amanda Tattrie at 807-631-4424 or Ryan Pepe at 807-472-0643.
