THUNDER BAY – Sports – Thunder Bay’s young alpine ski racers representing the Norwesters Alpine Club (NAC) under the leadership of head coach Matt Fisher showed they could compete against some of the best age group alpine skiers in Ontario. At this past weekends Mealley classic alpine races in Sault St Marie, Ontario the team came home with Gold and Bronze.
The weekend event series featured two Super Giant Slalom (Super G)and back to back Giant Slalom (GS) races held at the beautiful and challenging Searchmount Ski resort venue just outside of Sault St Marie.
Norwesters Alpine Club Skiers Own Podium
Aaron Puskas and Peter MacGregor both competing in the U12 boys catagory shared the podium over the weekend. Puskas led the way with an impressive 3 golds and 1 bronze. MacGregor also showed his strength finishing with 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Annie Lacourciere and Haley Koopman competing in the U12 girls catagory also had strong podium finishes. Lacourciere finished with an equally impressive 3 Gold and 1 bronze medals. Koopman finished the weekend with a bronze medal in Sundays GS race.
In the U14 boys catagory, Karl Woffler showed he could compete with the best by finishing on the podium with a bronze medal in Saturdays GS race.
U14 skier Serena Radley-Hansen finished just off the podium in fourth less then 2/10th of a second behind the bronze medal.
Other Thunder Bay racers including Tom Colquhoun, Remy Anderson and Keeley Sweitzer all had outstanding performances finishing in the top 5 against some of the best skiers in Ontario and Northern Michigan.
