THUNDER BAY – The investigation continues into the cause of a large blaze which consumed much of a nine-unit apartment building at 145 Cumming Street in Thunder Bay. Early Sunday morning, emergency responders were notified of a large fire in this vacant apartment building.

Cumming Street Fire Under Investigation

 The early morning fire brought police and fire crews out into the minus 26c temperatures. Smoke mixed with steam came off the scene of the fire. The street was blocked off by Thunder Bay Police.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, in a media release state, “This fire is highly suspicious in nature due to the fact that it occurred in a building which was vacant, secured from unintended access and under reconstruction from a previous fire. No known ignition sources were located in the building”.

The fire scene investigation is now complete. Thunder Bay Police will continue to pursue information relating to the cause of this fire.
