Bertschi says he realizes many have already penciled in Justin Trudeau as the next Liberal leader. “Justin is a fine young man,” commented Bertschi. “He brings a lot of attention to the race. However I bring life experience and my life of practicing in the real world to the Liberal Party”.

The candidate admits he is chasing a rabbit, “But I remember who won that race,” comments Bertschi.

“The federal government has grown by 40% under the Conservatives,” stated Bertschi. The Liberal leadership candidate is seeking to make government more open, and bring solid policy planks to the Liberal platform.

“I bring life experience, to the race along with a lot of real world experience,” commented Bertschi. The lawyer is driving across Canada to do a grassroots campaign for the Liberal leadership.

In Thunder Bay Bertschi was toured through the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and the Lakehead University Law School by Thunder Bay Superior North Liberal President Vince Mirabelli. The local Liberals will be escorting each of the Liberal leadership candidates through the city.

Bertschi has some solid thoughts on what should be done in the Aboriginal Affairs portfolio. First he says the relationship has to be based on respect, and the Prime Minister and Aboriginal Affairs Minister have to do much better. Bertschi says he would open direct nation to nation talks with First Nations leaders and negotiate in a meaningful way. “Liberals have build up some good will with Aboriginal people, a lot of that from former leader Paul Martin. Now we have to work with the people and make it work”

With nine candidates running, the candidate states because it is a preferential ballot, anything can happen.

David Bertschi is unveiling 24 platform issues on his website over the course of the campaign.
