THUNDER BAY – Sports – NHL Action continues through the shortened season. Fans are back, the action is solid, and for many people the lock out is a distant memory. The Chicago Blackhawks are leading the league but the San Jose Sharks are right on their tail feathers.

The New York Rangers had a fantastic night on Tuesday, topping the Flyers 2-1 at Madison Square Garden. Ryan Callahan popped in a power-play goal but ended up leaving the ice with an injury in the third period. Goaltended Henrik Lundqvist stopped 26 shots.

Defenceman Michael Del Zotto also scored a goal and assisted on another for the Rangers.

The Rangers have won two straight . Flyer Kimmo Timonen spoiled Lundqvist’s shutout bid at 7:09 into the third period with a power-play goal.

The Tampa Bay Lightning topped Florida Panthers in a 5-2 victory. Steven Stamkos nailed his fourth goal of the young season. The Lightning are off to a hot start winning five of six games to start the season. Cory Conacher, Tom Pyatt, Dana Tyrell and Vincent Lecavalier also scored to thunder the Lightning to the win. Peter Mueller and Tomas Fleischmann responded for the Florida Panthers. The Panthers are off to a less than stellar start after an opening night win. The Panthers have lost five in a row after their season-opening win over Carolina.

Leafs Fans celebrate!

The Toronto Maple Leafs celebrated an overtime win. Matt Frattin scored his second goal with 1.5 seconds left in overtime to rake in the win. Frattin skated in from the left circle and slammed a wrist shot over the shoulder of Sabres’ goaltender Ryan Miller.

Jay McClement and Cody Franson chipped in for the Leafs.

The Leafs ended a two-game losing streak with the win. Goalie James Reimer stopped 29 shots to anchor the winfor the Maple Leafs.

Jason Pominville, Andrej Sekera and Mikhail Grigorenko scored for Buffalo.
