THUNDER BAY – Crime – A high speed chase has led to charges for a youth. A teen led Thunder Bay Police on a wild chase last night. That spree of wild driving led to the seventeen year old being charged with an long list of criminal charges. Police charged the youth with eight criminal charges after capturing him last evening.
Thunder Bay Police call off High Speed Chase
Just after 8:00PM. on January 29th, 2013, a white car was observed traveling at a high rate of speed on May Street. Thunder Bay Police Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and it struck two parked vehicles in the Bay Street and Water Street area. The car then left the scene and the pursuit was called off for public safety concerns due to the high rate of speed and the road conditions.
Officers attended in the Hodder Ave area to checkout the residence of the registered owner of the vehicle. As short time later the same white car was observed and officers began to pursue the vehicle on Marion Street. The car skidded into the curb and officers pinned the vehicle so that it could not move on Strathcona Avenue. The driver was immediately arrested.
Further investigation revealed that the youth had allegedly taken the family vehicle without permission, and that the young man was on a court order not to drive.
The 17 year old male was escorted to the Thunder Bay Police Station where he was charged with:
- Dangerous Operation Of A Motor Vehicle
- Flight From Police x2
- Disqualified Operation of A Motor Vehicle
- Failure to Stop At The Scene Of An Accident
- Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent
- Breach of Probation
He was also charged under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act with:
- Failure to Remain
- Failure to Stop for Police
The suspect was scheduled to appear in court today.
