SAULT STE MARIE – Business – Searchmount Resort is benefiting from Fednor Investment. “Infrastructure upgrades at the Searchmont community ski resort will make it possible to host larger events and position the venue as a premier sports tourism attraction,” said MP Hayes. “The Harper Government is committed to helping the community fully develop this important tourism asset, which employs approximately 135 seasonal employees, and attracts up to 45,000 ski and snowboard enthusiasts each year.”
Bryan Hayes, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, on behalf of Tony Clement, Minister for FedNor has announced that the federal government is supporting tourism in the Sault Ste. Marie region.
“Sports tourism offers great potential to help Northern Ontario communities achieve their economic development goals,” said Minister Clement. “Our Government is proud to work with community partners, such as the Searchmont Ski Association, to capitalize on the region’s strengths to create jobs and long-term prosperity.”
A FedNor contribution of $406,350 will enable Searchmont Ski Association to repair its snowmaking equipment, lifts and buildings, as well as upgrade its water system.
“Thanks to FedNor and the federal government, our future is looking up,” said Greg Peres, President of the Searchmont Ski Association. “These upgrades will help us maintain and increase our visitation numbers, strengthening our contribution to the regional economy.”
