THUNDER BAY – There is more good news for Thunder Bay. “We are thrilled to be the successful bid for this major conference,” said Mayor Keith Hobbs. “I extend my gratitude to my fellow Councillors for their resolution to submit a bid and for a successful submission. This will result in bringing many new visitors, Mayors, staff and spouses to Thunder Bay, most who have never visited our city. As the largest community on Lake Superior, I am very excited to showcase Thunder Bay to the other member communities and host the important work for the Great Lakes that will come out of this conference.”

The City of Thunder Bay has announced it has been selected as the host city for the 2014 Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative Annual General Meeting and Conference which will see around 250 delegates come together from all over the Great Lakes area of North America. The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative is a coalition of U.S. and Canadian Mayors and other local officials working to advance the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River. It includes 95 member municipalities of all sizes from around the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Basin, representing over 15 million people.
Mayors of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative are a prominent voice in efforts to protect and restore the vitality of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River and improve the quality of life for the residents of the region. Members of the Cities Initiative are committed to working together and with other orders of government and stakeholders to improve infrastructure, programs and services and increase investments that protect and restore this globally significant freshwater resource.
