SCHREIBER – “This is a good project for Schreiber; environmentally friendly, adds energy to the grid and in the long term will be financially beneficial to the Township. Solar Logix has been a great partner to bring this project from start to finish,” states Mayor Don McArthur. The Township of Schreiber have announced the installation and completion of its solar panel project at the Schreiber Municipal Complex.
The project was initiated earlier this year when Schreiber Council received a favorable feasibility report and decided to partner with Solar Logix Inc.
The array consists of 46 panels with a nameplate capacity of 9.88 Kilowatts. The annual electricity exported to the grid is projected to be 15.99 MWh. For perspective, according to the feasibility study the project has the potential to offset the greenhouse gas equivalent of the burning of 2,277 litres of gasoline for every year that the project is in service. Over the 20 year life of the OPA contract, this equates to more than 45,540 litres of gasoline not burnt.
The payback period on the system is estimated at roughly six and a half (6.5) years and should generate revenues in the range of $12,000 per year over the 20 year contract with the Ontario Power Authority.
Additionally, Township staff have access via the web to monitor system performance, identify and diagnose problems and adjust settings.
