OTTAWA – Sports – “We had another very poor start (down 9-0) and gave up 28 first quarter points but I am proud of how we responded and improved. Ottawa is a great team and we were once again able to generate 25 turnovers but we are struggling to defend the post and generate post offense. Kelsey was great on back-to-back nights and is certainly becoming a tough player to defend but I was very proud of Ayse Kalkan’s performance tonight,” stated Lakehead Thunderwolves coach Jon Kreiner.

The Lakehead University Thunderwolves women’s basketball team were defeated on Saturday evening, 84-72 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Ottawa jumped out to an early lead and the T-Wolves were unable to respond enough to close the gap, trailing 42-29 at halftime.

Top scorers for Lakehead were Carolyn Fragale with 22 points and 6 rebounds and Kelsey Bardsley had 20 points (6-11 3-pt shooting), Ayse Kalkan chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Maddie Stephen led the Gee-Gees with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Tatiana Hanlan and Jenna Gilbert had 15 points each.

Lakehead was out-rebounded 47-30 on the night, but did win the second half 44-43.
