THUNDER BAY – If past history is any indication, the Americans are going to have their hands full from the play of the Thunder Bay Queen’s hockey team this weekend. The Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens will be off to St. Paul, Minn., this weekend to compete in the annual Minnesota Thoroughbreds Thanksgiving tournament, which runs Friday through Sunday.
A total of 16 of the top midget clubs in both Canada and the U.S. will be taking part.
Joining the host Thoroughbreds and the defending Ontario midget AA champion and Esso Cup national finalist Queens at the event will be teams from five provinces and four states.
Game action for Thunder Bay begins Friday evening at 7:20 p.m. CT when they take on the Milwaukee Junior Admirals.
Two games are on tap for the Queens Saturday as they conclude round robin play with match-ups against the Grand Prairie Storm from Alberta at 10:50 a.m. before meeting the Westman Wildcats of Manitoba at 4:40 p.m. CT.
Medal and consolation round contests go Sunday with the championship game set for 12:30 p.m. CT.
The Sportop Queens have been successful at this event the past couple seasons winning the tourney back in 2010 while earning a silver medal last year.
