RED LAKE – “With financial support from FedNor, Sachigo Lake First Nation will have the type of strategic infrastructure required to create employment opportunities and business partnerships with the private sector,” stated Chief Titus Tait. “A modern and efficient business centre will assist the First Nation in diversifying its economy and provide commercial space for Band members to pursue small business opportunities in the community.”
Tony Clement, Minister for FedNor, along with Kenora MP Greg Rickford announced a Government of Canada investment to support community economic development, small business growth and job creation in the community of Sachigo Lake First Nation. “Today’s announcement will provide the Sachigo Lake First Nation with the infrastructure it needs to attract new investment to the area and enable existing businesses to grow and prosper,” said Minister Clement. “It will also help position the community as a base of operations for the region’s mining sector and assist in pursuing opportunities in the tourism, forestry, energy and service sectors.”
“By working with First Nation communities to address their economic and business development priorities, our government is helping to strengthen and develop the local economy,” added Greg Rickford, Member of Parliament for Kenora. “More importantly, this initiative will empower Sachigo Lake First Nation to take charge of its future.”
The First Nation will use $490,000 in FedNor funding to construct a small business centre in the community, which will accommodate a variety of business and community organizations, as well as provide incubation space for entrepreneurs.
