THUNDER BAY – Food Now – ‎ Kevin Belluz from Belluz Farms shares some really good reasons to stop by the Little Red Barn on Memorial Avenue today until 3PM (or at the farm this weekend!) if great pumpkins wasn’t enough!

1. French Fingerling Potato – The French fingerling is a petit, sleek and slender heirloom potato. Its rose colored skin is thin and smooth. Its flesh, a marbling of pink and ivory, is succulent, firm and waxy. It has a robust, earthy and buttery flavor when cooked. The French fingerling is best suited to roasting and grilling and makes a perfect soup, stew and gratin ingredient.

2. German Butterball Potato – German Butterball potatoes have golden-colored, smooth skin. They are richly flavored with edible flesh also known as “butterless” as the taste is so rich that butter is not necessary.

3. Mini Long Island Cheese Winter Squash – Long Island cheese are so named for their flat, wheel shape. They are in the same family as butternut squash and have dense, thick flesh with great colour, smooth texture and sweet flavour. Ideal for baking or soups.

4. Black Futsu Winter Squash – Rare Japanese squash (like the Kabocha), the fruit is flattened, round and has heavy ribbing. Flesh is golden color and has the rich taste of hazelnuts. Smooth and creamy.
