THUNDER BAY – After a nearly two-year hiatus, Confederation College is excited to host a weekend of women’s junior hockey in Thunder Bay. The Thunderhawks women’s hockey team squares off against the Manitoba Women’s Junior Hockey League (MWJHL) Silvertips tonight at 7:30 at Delaney Arena. The next game is on Saturday morning at 10:00 against the Prairie Blaze, last year’s MWJHL provincial champions.

“We’re looking forward to a great weekend of hockey” said Marshall Erickson, Thunderhawks Head Coach. “The competition should be good. The girls are passionate about their sport and they want to be tested,” added Erickson.

The Thunderhawks home-opener weekend is an official World Girls’ Hockey Weekend event. Recognizing that female hockey is one for the fastest growing sports in the world, events like World Girls’ Hockey Weekend provide an opportunity to celebrate women’s ice hockey. “It’s nice to see our home opener designated as Thunder Bay’s World Girls’ Hockey Weekend event,” said Erickson.

Admission is free and all games are open to the public.

This weekend’s game schedule:

Friday 7:30 p.m. Thunderhawks vs. Silvertips Delaney
Saturday 10:00 a.m. Thunderhawks vs. Prairie Blaze Fort William Gardens
Saturday 7:30 p.m. Thunderhawks vs. Silvertips Delaney
Sunday 9:00 a.m. Thunderhawks vs. Prairie Blaze Fort William Gardens
