THUNDER BAY – Sports – The Board of Directors of the Thunder Bay Marathon – Miles with the Giant are pleased to announce that elite athlete Thomas Omwenga will run the Thunder Bay Marathon on September 23. Omwenga is an amazing athlete with a personal best time of 2:10:44 in the Seoul Marathon in 2004.

The past twelve months have been exceptional for Omwenga with first place wins in the Victoria Marathon (2:24:31), the Hamilton Marathon (2:28:52), the Manitoba Marathon (2:25:13), and the Quebec Marathon (2:28:36). Omwenga also placed 11th in the 2012 Ottawa Marathon with a time of 2:18:46.

Miles with the Giant Director Charla Robinson says, “We are thrilled to welcome Thomas Omwenga to our third annual event. We are looking forward to a great race that could set a new speed record for our marathon.”

Thomas is married to Winnie and has 2 children who they raise on their 2-acre organic Non-GMO farm near Eldoret, Kenya focusing mostly on maize, bananas and vegetables.

Omwenga will face 2011 Thunder Bay Marathon champion Gilbert Kiptoo (2:26:24), also of Eldoret, Kenya, who has confirmed he will return to run the event for the third consecutive year.
