THUNDER BAY – The Disaster Relief Committee wants to encourage local businesses to take part in Loonie Days for Disaster Relief, a fundraising event to assist those affected by the flood on May 28. From Friday, Aug. 31 to Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, local businesses are being asked to request $1 from customers to donate to the Thunder Bay & Area Disaster Relief Fund. Funds raised by the community will be matched up to two by the Province of Ontario – $1 becomes $3.

The fundraising effort is moving forward, although it appears to be moving slower than everyone might like.

All Metro and Quality Market stores have already confirmed their participation.

The Disaster Relief Committee is committed to Restoring Our Neighbours.

There are thousands of affected homeowners and businesses across the City who are still recovering. It is estimated that $15 to $20 million will be required to help those who are either without insurance or are under-insured.

For businesses interested in participating, contact the DRC office at 625-2686 by Friday, Aug. 24.
