NNL-FloodandRecoveryTHUNDER BAY – Today marks the start of Walmart’s annual fundraising campaign in support of Canadian Red Cross local disaster relief operations. During this three-week in-store campaign, Walmart customers are invited to make a donation at the till on behalf of the Canadian Red Cross. This year’s ambitious national campaign goal is $3.2 million.

Across Ontario, multiple events are taking place to launch the start of the campaign and help raise awareness about the importance of every family having a disaster preparedness kit filled with items you can find at your local Walmart.

Walmart Canada’s support of the Canadian Red Cross helps families get back on their feet after disaster strikes, including reuniting families separated by the disaster, emotional support, lodging and providing emergency supplies such as blankets, food, clothing, water and hygiene kits (toothbrushes, soap and other toiletries). Since 2003, Walmart Canada, its customers, associates and suppliers have raised and donated more than $19 million to the Canadian Red Cross.

The Red Cross depends on public donations and the commitment of thousands of volunteers to be there when Canadians are affected by disaster. To learn more about the disaster management program, volunteer opportunities or to make a donation, contact your local Red Cross office or visit www.redcross.ca.
