THUNDER BAY – A promise from MPP Bill Mauro continues to move forward. The Atikokan Generating Station is continuing to shift from coal to biomass. This move is creating 200 construction jobs and helping to protect existing jobs at the plant. This will take the province another step closer to eliminating coal-fired electricity generation by the end of 2014.

“This conversion of the Atikokan Generating Station is moving forward to its final and most important phase. This is the result of years of hard work—I want to thank everyone who has helped to make this happen. The conversion of the generating station from coal to biomass will keep energy jobs in the Town of Atikokan and create forestry jobs in Northern Ontario,” stated Bill Mauro, MPP, Thunder Bay–Atikokan.
