Lakehead UniversityTHUNDER BAY – “Ontario Government’s support will equip our world-class researchers at Lakehead University with much needed infrastructure. Research and scholarly activities at Lakehead have yielded, and will continue to create, new knowledge and innovation in strategic areas, such as bioenergy and biorefining, to speed up regional economic development,” states Dr. Rui Wang, Vice President Research, Economic Development & Innovation.

With the province’s support of $219,195, Dr. Sudip Rakshit, Lakehead University’s Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Bioenergy and Biorefining, is using innovative techniques to overcome the major bottlenecks in the production of biofuels and renewable chemicals from organic materials. This will help overcome our dependence on petro-based products.

“We’re proud of the exceptional work happening at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. The contributions of our researchers are making the world a better place, starting right here with new ideas and jobs in our community,” added Bill Mauro, MPP Thunder Bay-Atikokan.

“I am very pleased with the commitment our government is making by supporting research here at Lakehead University. Through the use of innovative techniques these researchers are developing advancements in the field of Bio-refinery that will help build and support our region and Ontario’s economy,” shared Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay-Superior North.
