NIPIGON – The extent of damage and the assessment of the damage from the recent rainfall is continuing to be examined. Right now, the Ministry of Natural Resources advises that, due to recent heavy rains, road washouts are occurring on some resource access roads in Nipigon District.

The public are being asked to exercise caution when traveling on these roads. Water on the road, washouts and heavy rutting pose a risk to traveler safety. The public should avoid traveling on unfamiliar roads or crossing any submerged roadbeds. Barricades will be erected at roads where known washouts or dangerous driving conditions have been observed.

To report a new or potential road washout in this area, please contact the Ministry of Natural Resources office in Nipigon at 807-887-5000.
