2012 Dudley Hewitt CupTHUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Soo Thunderbirds are off to the championship game of the Dudley Hewitt Cup Central Canada Junior A Hockey tournament being held in Thunder Bay. The Soo got three points apiece from the trio Kevin Michelcavage, Brett Campbell and Nick Romano as they skated to an 8-5 victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars in Friday’s semifinal contest at the Fort William Gardens.

Sault Ste. Marie will now face the Stouffville Spirit in Saturday’s title game at 7:30PM. with the Dudley-Hewitt Cup winner moving on to represent the region at the Royal Bank Cup in Humboldt, Sask., May 5-13.

Tonight’s Gold Medal game will be a re-match between the two teams. The Stouffville Spirit won big over the Soo Thunderbirds in round robin play earlier this week. In beating the North Stars last night, the Thunderbirds were moving back into gear.

However the Spirit was able to take advantage of a day’s rest. That should make tonight’s game a worthwhile hockey game to enjoy.

Oh, and if you really want to churn up your Saturday night, your ticket to tonight’s game also gets you into Dudley’s Den in the Fort William Curling Club. After the game the UFC fights will be live on the big screens.

To add to the excitement, dial 333-STAR on your wireless phone, and enter the draw for $5000 from Neebing Lumber. The big draw will be made at 11PM – and to win you have to be in attendance in the Den!
