THUNDER BAY – Environment Canada is reporting, “A low pressure system over Minnesota is tracking northeast towards Lake Superior. An area of snow north of the low continues over Northwestern Ontario and will spread eastward towards the Geraldton region today.
The weather service has issued a special weather statement for Kenora – Nestor Falls, Dryden – Ignace, Atikokan – Upsala – Quetico, Red Lake – Ear Falls, Sioux Lookout – Savant Lake, Lake Nipigon – Wabakimi, and Nakina – Aroland – Pagwa.
Snow may be heavy at times, especially in a swath from the Sioux Lookout region to Nakina. Further local snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are possible in the heaviest band before the snow ends later today.
Lesser amounts are expected southwest of a line from Red Lake to Atikokan. There is also a risk of brief freezing rain across the region early this morning which may create hazardous travel conditions.
