John DuncanATTAWAPISKAT – Today in the House of Commons, Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan reported, “I’d like to inform the Member from Edmonton-Strathcona that the money is in the student account for post-secondary education as of today”. Students attending school outside of Attawapiskat had not received their funding for April.

This put a number of students in a difficult situation. As first reported on NetNewsledger.com on Wednesday, this matter appeared to be related to change in fiscal year. Sources reported that all funds for fiscal year 2011-2012 had been delivered. The new fiscal year 2012-2013 has just started.

Charlie Angus, the MP for Timmins-James Bay comments, “Aboriginal Affairs confirmed to me this afternoon that student support money has been released. Have a good Easter break students”.

The money should be in the student’s accounts shortly.
