NAPSTHUNDER BAY – Crimebeat – Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service have announced Robert Herman as Deputy Chief of Police beginning on April 16, 2012. Herman will be succeeding the outgoing Dan MacLeod who held the position for the past year. Robert Herman will be serving on an interim basis. The former Thunder Bay Police Chief brings skills to assist the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service in succession planning and the growth and development of the young police service.

Herman offers a partnership between his municipal policing and First Nations policing knowledge and experience for the betterment of the people of the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation. Prior to joining the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, Robert Herman was appointed in 2010 as the 59th President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and he led the Thunder Bay Police Service as Chief of Police for the last 11 years of his 32 year policing career.

NAPS Chief Claude Chum is looking forward to working with Deputy Chief Herman to draw upon his knowledge, experience and abilities. “With the governments announcing major cut backs in funding across the board, there is no doubt this will affect First Nations Policing across the country. Robert Herman coming on board as Deputy Chief of Police will only assist the police chief with navigating through these challenging issues ahead”, stated Chief Chum.
