2012 Dudley Hewitt CupTHUNDER BAY – Sports – Are you ready for the Thunder Bay International Airport Authority Inc. Dudley Hewitt Cup? The tournament is still several weeks away, but already the excitement is starting to build. The tournament runs from April 17-21st in Thunder Bay with play at the Fort William Gardens.

Tickets are on sale already. However this weekend, at Intercity Mall, the Thunder Bay North Stars will be on hand to give the kids a chance to win tickets. Come by with the kids for them to try the “Shoot to Win” game for free tickets to the opening night game of the tournament.

In opening round action, as hosts, the North Stars will play the OJHL rep who has yet to be decided.

The Dudley Hewitt Cup is named after George Dudley and W. A. Hewitt, two pioneers of amateur hockey in Ontario. The first Dudley Hewitt Cup was awarded in 1971 to the Detroit Jr. Red Wings of the Southern Ontario Junior A Hockey League. The tournament is played in round robin format with the host team as well as representatives from the NOJHL (Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League), OJHL (Ontario Junior Hockey League) and SIJHL (Superior International Junior Hockey League).

The winner of the Dudley Hewitt Cup moves on to compete for the RBC Royal Bank Cup, Hockey Canada’s National Junior A Championship.
