THUNDER BAY – Members of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) Board of Directors attended the Ontario Good Roads – Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference in Toronto this week to bring attention to the issues and opportunities facing Northwestern Ontario.

NOMA President Ron Nelson said, “The NOMA board met with Government and Opposition Members of Provincial Parliament to discuss a number of priority topics including: the need for an infrastructure plan to facilitate development in the Ring of Fire; the lack of energy transmission capacity to power our northern First Nations and to enable development across the entire region; and, the high cost of policing in Northern communities.”

“We also stressed the importance of pushing forward with the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario and we encouraged the Minister to expedite the announcement of details for the Northern Policy Institute including the structure and location,” added Nelson. “We were pleased with the positive discussions we had with all three parties and we offered our assistance to ensure that Northwestern Ontario can reach its full potential.”
