THUNDER BAY – You might not know it from this picture but the horses pulling the two fire engines are charging down Court Street South, which had yet to develop into the business district it later became.
The large building in the background, the Ruttan Block, was brand new when this image was taken in the early years of the 20th century. At the time, it housed several businesses as well as the town library. The fire engines, obviously off to a fire, would have come from the fire hall on Court Street North, now Thunder Bay’s Multicultural Centre.
