ThunderwolvesST CATHARINES, ON – The Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team were defeated Friday evening by the Brock Badgers, 77-70 in overtime. Lakehead trailed for the majority of the game before making a run to close the gap in the fourth quarter, in which they out-scored the Badgers 14-7 to force overtime.

Carolyn Fragale had a great game with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists with only 1 turnover in 44 minutes of play. Lindsay Druery was also a huge force on the glass, collecting 14 rebounds (7 offensive) to go with17 points and 2 blocked shots. Kelsey Bardsley had 19 points on 8-of-20 shooting.

Nicole Rosenkranz was the answer Brock in the post, scoring 18 points (10-13 FT) and pulling down 16 rebounds (9 offensive). Four other Badgers scored in double digits (Andrea Polischuk- 10 pts, 8 rebs, 5 offensive).

Coach Jon Kreiner, who celebrated his birthday on Friday, was pleased with the way his team battled back and locked down on defense, “After getting behind early we played a really great 2nd half and an excellent 4th quarter. It was a great game with a number of lead changes and some good offensive play but our defense really gave us a chance in the 4th quarter. We had a number of opportunities to win the game but in the end we put Brock to the line too many times and gave them too many 2nd chance opportunities. Carolyn Fragale had her best game of the year and Druery played a great 2nd half collecting 7 offensive boards and was a big presence inside.”

The two teams will rematch today at 6PM.
