Confederation College ThunderhawksTHUNDER BAY – Continuing its efforts to build a strong post-secondary women’s hockey program in Thunder Bay, the Confederation College Thunderhawks have announced that Kylie Cornell has joined their defensive lineup. Kylie is a student in the Social Service Worker program at the College.

A product of the Midget AA Queens national championship team, Cornell brings size and strength to the Thunderhawks defence. “Kylie is a smart player. She reads the play well, is calm under pressure and gets pucks to the opposing net in convincing fashion,” says Marshall Erickson, head coach of the Thunderhawks. When asked what “convincing fashion” means, Erickson grinned and explained that “You only have to see one of Kylie’s slap shots to know what that’s all about. She’s an amazing player.”

The Confederation College Thunderhawks Women’s Hockey program is in its inaugural year. Its student-athletes benefit from Hockey Canada High Performance 1 level qualified coaches; a certified kinesiologist for off-ice group and personal fitness training and nutritional advice; access to the College’s on-site Fitness Centre; academic advising services and the team’s own administrative support staff.

The next major event for the Thunderhawks is the Lieutenant-Governor’s tournament, taking place in Winnipeg from February 2 to 5, where they will face stiff competition from other Canadian and U.S. colleges as well as junior women’s teams from Manitoba and Alberta.
