THUNDER BAY – Big Thunder Nordic Ski Club athlete, Mia Serratore had an impressive weekend in Vernon, BC as she crossed the finish line in 1st position in the juvenile girls category for classic sprint races. On the second day of competition, Serratore placed 2nd in the 5km classic race in a field that had some of the best skiers her age from across North America. Other notable results in the juvenile girls category included Sadie White of Big Thunder Nordic who came 4th in the sprints and 5th in the distance race and teammate Bea Kaiser who crossed the line in 8th position in the 5km classic race.
On the men’s side, Angus Foster of Big Thunder Nordic finished the 5km classic race in a very impressive 2nd position in the Junior Boys Category. Julien Frietag also of Big Thunder and Foster raced up a category in the sprints and finished a stellar 9th and 10th place respectively. Frietag also finished 6th in the distance races.
These races were the first stop on the Haywood Noram race series and attracted many of the top skiers from across Canada and the United States. More information can be found on www.cccski.com and full results can be found on www.zone4.ca
Thunder Bay athletes are now focusing on and looking forward to the Ontario Cup races taking place in Thunder Bay at the Lappe Nordic Ski Centre from January 6th-8th.
