THUNDER BAY – Since the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society announced that more funding was needed, our community has come together to assist in raising money to avoid closure. Like many others, I read the news with a sinking feeling in my stomach. I felt as though there had to be something we can do to help raise funds, and found a group of dedicated volunteers who were planning an event to raise money for the TBHS.

On Saturday December 10th from 8pm to 2am, we encourage you to attend Save the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society Event at the Westfort Tavern. All proceeds will be donated to the TBDHS. Sponsors include: the Westfort Tavern, Eat Local Pizza, Busy Buddies Childcare Centre, Old Dutch Food, and National Bank Financial. The event includes live entertainment (belly dancing), live dj, silent auction, and pizza.

Unlike people, animals are unable to protect themselves or plead for help during this time of need. I urge you to help make a difference and save the TBDHS from closing after March 31st, 2012.

If you are unable to attend the event on December 10th, please note that there are several other ways to help. Donations (of any denomination) can be made to the TBDHS and are eligible for a tax receipt (over $20). The PADS for PAWS monthly giving program deducts any demonization from your bank account, and can make a great holiday gift, not to mention earn you a tax receipt to help with your yearly charitable tax donations!

Businesses can get involved by posting flyers and PADS for PAWS information, or possibly donating their dress down funds to the TBDHS.

As this event is licensed, we encourage students to become involved as well by donating their time, toys, or pet food to the TBDHS.

The most important way that anyone can help though, would be to get the message out there. At this time of year, there are numerous organizations and charities in need of extra funding. The TBDHS is no exception; however the risk of closure should not be taken lightly by anyone, and we need to come together as a strong community to help make a difference.

Please stop by tomorrow evening at the Westfort Tavern between 8pm and 2am to donate to the TBDHS, or just stop by for a drink!
