MARATHON – Marathon Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) wants prospective residents, businesses and investors to “Choose Marathon”. Today, the MEDC officially launched their new economic development website at www.choosemarathon.ca. The new website is part of a municipal marketing effort to attract new business, industries and professionals.
Marathon`s Community Services & Economic Development Manager, Daryl Skworchinski states, “The MEDC is leading the way out of past tough economic times by providing the online information businesses need to make positive investment choices about Marathon. We are excited about the potential market opportunities for Marathon and particularly in the forestry and mining sectors.”
Choosemarathon.ca was designed by Firedog Communications with content developed by Millier Dickinson Blais. It showcases the opportunities and advantages of locating in Marathon by providing users with access to a variety of online business tools, resources and links to community assets. Key features include a business directory, a Community Profile and a range of local economic reports covering everything from demographic and labour market data to a major employers list.
According to Skworchinski, the website strategy is to improve the quality of information available to businesses and stakeholders seeking economic development services; “Choosemarathon.ca will help existing businesses, site selectors and entrepreneurs quickly find the information they need to consider Marathon for investment or potential expansion. It also emphasizes Marathon`s high quality of life attributes and the MEDC’s commitment to supporting business growth and municipal economic prosperity.”
The MEDC was awarded funding from the Northern Communities Investment Readiness Program for the development of a new Community Profile and Economic Development website. Marathon is a vibrant community with a burgeoning economy supported by the Hemlo Gold Mines and many small and medium sized businesses.
The Town of Marathon is located 300 km east of Thunder Bay and 400 km northwest of Sault Ste. Marie. It is the largest town on the north shore of Lake Superior between the two cities which positions it as the regional centre of commerce. The MEDC is the primary office responsible for assisting business and industry to locate, relocate or expand operations in or around Marathon.
