200 students from Thunder Bay high schools will attend Success-Certified Event

THUNDER BAY – On Friday, November 25th, over 200 students from Thunder Bay high schools will be attending the day-long Success-Certified event organized by Passport to Prosperity. This will be the 4th year this highly successful event has run in the city. The courses were chosen to help augment the schools and their Specialist High Skills Major programs (Manufacturing, Transportation, Health & Wellness, Arts & Culture, and the Environment) as well as to help students with their employability for summer jobs, co-op placements and prepare them for the workforce.

Students are able to choose one or two courses from the following options:

Emergency First Aid
Safe Food Handling
Proper Lifting Techniques
Service Excellence
Smart Serve
Infectious Disease Control
Salon Assistant
Liquid Propane Handling

The courses are being offered by local organization and businesses (Thunder Bay Schools, A Spa For You, St. John Ambulance, YES Employment Services, Thunder Bay Physio, Equipment World, and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit), and the event is being hosted at Lakehead University who has generously donated space for this event.

Passport to Prosperity is a province-wide Ministry of Education campaign designed to increase employer involvement and partnerships in career education and school-work opportunities for high school students. For Thunder Bay and region the PtoP campaign is operated from the North Superior Workforce Planning Board office.
