Nipigon Elks Off to Blistering Season Start 8-1

NIpigon ElksNIPIGON – Sports – Friday night at the Nipigon Community Centre the Nipigon Elks hosted the Thunder Bay Junior Stars. This game was dedicated to our fallen dead overseas. “In Flanders Fields” was read by public address announcer Doug Harvey.

The crowd remained standing for the singing of O’Canada by Moriah Harvey.

The Nipigon Elks would start the scoring off with a goal by Johannes Lahtinen at the 9:22 mark. Mitch Kerr scored to put the Elks up 2-0. The score would stay the same at periods end. The Elks out-shot the Stars 23-10.

The Elks would score two in the second period goals to go up 4-0. Their goals came from Steven St.Jean and Landon Clearwater. After two periods of play the hometown Elks had built themselves a comfortable 4-0 advantage. The shots on goal in the second were 14-14 for a two period total of 37-24.

The third period was only 27 seconds old when Landon Clearwater would score his second goal of the game, and put Nipigon up 5-0.

The Stars finally got a puck behind Elks goalie Thomas Gratz and break up his shutout bid.

Steven St.Jean got that goal back and made the score 6-1. The Stars Chris Bourdon scored and made the score 6-2. Goals by Mark Dawd, Landon Clearwater and Cole Saunders would increase the Elks lead up to 9-2 and that was be the final score.

With the win the Elks are off to and 8-1 record, and have won their fifth game in a row. The Nipigon Elks next action is on Friday November 18th and 19th when they play a home and home series with the Schreiber Filane Falcons.
